Ok, that will work. Except for the nuisance to have to do it every time, and losing any images you may have wanted to preserve in the card as backup. But this seems to be the new way to go with iPhoto anyway. In Leopard, I was able to plug my Nokia phone; iPhoto remembered what photos were in there and which had been transferred already, without disturbing those on the phone.
